Juniper "procumbens" Nana

This Juniper "procumbens" Nana was initially shaped on Saturday at our last club meeting.
Usually I am buying a juniper just to do some shaping at our club workshop
This one I had bought for NIS 30 (USD 6.7).

The pocket branch (pink) is not a very good formation - the spoke branch (yellow) could probably go, too.

Regards,

Matt

Hi carmi

You don't want sacrifice branches in a pocket on an informal upright. Sacrifice branches encourage the tree to grow, and that will make it fill in the pocket, and you will lose movement in the trunk.

Also, having multiple sacrifice branches at one point creates a knot. If that knot is right at the rootline, it can create an increase in caliper, but high up on the tree, with multiples you get reverse taper and localized swelling.

BTWm the best position for a single sacrifice branch this high up on the tree is the location of that jinned branch on the upper outside of the curve. Looks like you already sacrificed it, though!

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt,
I will cut them off, this tree was in very bad condition, the two jinned branches were naturally jinned, I am not sure if I will keep both of them.
Thank You

Nice trunk movement.

You also have a chance here to create a windswept style, since almost all foliage is on the left side (on the last picture).

Hi Attila,
I did thought about it, that is one of the reasons I did not wire all the branches yet.
Thank you,
