Hello Titus i am a great believer in height reduction especially in junipers
to keep trees compact. This tree does not pose a problem however i would
be tempted to use the right hand branch near the top as my new apex.
The taper would improve. I would jin first branch to a stub jin not like the huge ones that i have seen recently. Can you let me know what the plant
is at the base of the trunk? Kind regards Ash

If it were mine I would loose the whole left hand side of the tree (airlayer if you feel bad just hacking). Just keep the first right branch and make a semicascade, now you have some taper!

Great material

The one would benefit greatly from a wiring top to bottom. You are never going to get a really top notch tree without it. Detail wire.

Ps. To all of us, this is the kind of stock we should al be looking for. Something ready to be taken to a higher level.

hi i,m presuming this is a roughly styled chinese import? i,ve worked on quite a few of these and found them to have (generally) branches in all the right places and can be improved a lot by carefull wiring. i would be reluctant to reduce but would instead wire more pronounced movement into the trunk to create the more compact image. if yours is the same as mine though the soil is a worry long term as it is a very heavy clay. also look for remains of iron wire left on that stain and mark the branches. here is one of mine that looked a lot like yours, regards andrew

To all thank you for the ideas I'm thinking them all over. The tree does need top to bottom wiring I'll be doing that this week.

Ash - I'm not sure of the plant at the base of the tree. I do wish I knew though I haven't found out what it could be yet.

Hi Titus,

I used some of Ash comments in lowering the tree and creating a new top.
You have to lower or change the branches which are left over, I'm not so good doing virts. Hope you understand my view, it's just MHO.

cheers Wessel

I can agree with lowering the tree though wiring the branchs at the top are far to undevolped at this point to think of choping back tough. I'm leaning to a simicascade style with this one. Thoughts in a nutshell; First to jin the lowest front branch, second remove all branchs but lowest right, top left, and branchs that make up the apex. Lastly is to lower the lower right branch and add movement to the trunk bringing it lower and closer to the lower right branch. As well as detail wiring to improve the folage pads. Sorry for the long discription, I can't make a virt for shit.
