Jersey 'nana' Prebonsai Nursery Stock

This is a juniper I have done some initial styling on this year. I plan to repot in the spring. In the next few weeks a bonsai auction is being held, where Sara Rayner vends some of her wares.....hope to find something there for this one.

Paul

oh, comments very welcome....

p.s. MFP....this IS one of mine.

Paul,

Seems to me that this is a tree in desperate need of some good hard decisions. Right now, I'm not sure quite what it's trying to do, where it's trying to go, or what it's trying to be.

From the picture shown, I can't tell how much potential the lower trunk has. You say it's had some initially styling, so I assume you're not looking to hack off 75% of it. But I think you need to figure out where you're going with this one before we can be of much help.

Best regards,
Old Mister

P.S. By the way, that's a really sweet little white pine in the other thread...

i agree w/ him, it needs to have an odvious style, it has nice potential, and you picked a gooden, id say, poast a few more pics from diff angles, and a little cloaser of the trunk, also if you are sure you want to go cascade, than i would thin out the folage on the left long branch

Hi fella's,

I agree with ya both, I have some decisions to make , more design issues mostly. ....I only cleaned it up as an "initial styling". I tinkered with this virtual and yes some pruning back on the left branch is in order. I will post more internal shots of the trunk and base etc, top view and the other side as well tomorrow.

I am doing a cascade virt and a few others before I prune any thing more off at the moment.

What do you think of this??

I like the potential here better. I would go with one trunk or the other though. Right now it looks like a two headed monster. Too symmetrical. It begs asymmetry.

Heres my meager attempt. Just using the right trunk. Rotating up 90 degrees. Jin the remmnets of the left branch, using a little foliage to help with that canopy.

Now for my critique of the virtual. Pot too big. Trunk too fat at the base. I hope you get the idea though. I had fun!

when i saw it, i had a completely different idea, than al, i just thaught to jin the right branch off, and just touch up the other side, but his is much more formal, and is better prized,

Gee Al, If this was meager, I would love to see when you apply yourself.....

I haven't even ventured into the realm of turning it up at all yet. I am still 10 to 15 degrees to the left or right in my virtuals at the moment. (turning the trunk up left or right).

I have virtual removed the left side totally as you have done, but it still only was left at the present angle. Your virtual shows some major possibilities.

We had loads of rain this a.m. which caused me to delay my pic taking of the tree. (Wife says I gotta do stuff before I play). So I will get some more detailed pics of this tree to show here.

BTW, ole Lady is in the shower. I am doing this quickly.....

Check back with you all later.

Paul

Paul,

please don't consider this a finished virt, just playin' around...

Is this possible or not with the tree's actual branch structure? It's a little unclear from the photo what is actually going in the righthand side of the tree.

As I said, just playin' around, perhaps someone with more experience & skill could take my idea further... or perhaps not if it's a cr@p idea

Regards,

BTW, most odd but when I rightclick the image in post#4 & save on my pc the thumbnail shows up as the very first image with different light levels.
