JBP just worked up

here is an old Japanese Black Pine 'kotobuki' that I just worked up. What are your thoughts? Glazed pot choice?

I will be working the mid-section of trunk to massage out the inverse taper. It is actually not nearly as bad as the photo makes it appear, but it is an area to address. Most kotobuki have swelling and inverse taper issues; that is life.

The lowest branch on the left is a back branch and it needs to be repositioned more to the right in the back. I will be tweaking the positioning of the branch pads after it settles and recovers a bit more.

Is the pot color choice along with the pine needles perhpas reflective of an affinity for a particular university?

I think the tree itself though looks great . . . there are only two things that I can see that might need a little attention, and one of which you have already mentioned (the back branch on the bottom that looks like its going to the left).

The other of which is the apex. i feel like the apex needs to be brought in a bit close to the trunk. As of now it appears to fall outside of the overall shape produced by the lower branches . . . not by much, but enough that its noticeable (unless of course its just a figment of the angle of the photo). Another option is to grow out (or possibly even remove all together depending on what's going on up there) the branches just below the apex.

Just a couple thoughts . . . overall a great tree (that is far superior to anything in my collection) that is well on its way.

Justin

I like the cultivar for its needles but don't know much more about it. Where did you find this tree? It looks really healthy, nice job so far.

IMO, this tree is too tall. You'd have a better tree reducing it to just above the reverse taper. As it is, it seems too tall and regular.

The roof has holes larger than basketballs. So, not gonna get any paint. It is waiting to fall down or be torn down...just like me...

Since I haven't bought any trees in a couple of weeks, money must be getting a little tight, or you could repair it.

that an unusual style from a JBP....

pots...i usually see dark brown as pots...
not glazed becauses Black pines are said to have a Masculine appearance...
doesnt suit light glazed pots.
blue does not go with the dark craggy bark
