Question Japanese White Pine.

Photo.12.08.02. If I were to remove the top is there any potential here for a semi-cascade or cascade? or should I grow it as an Informal upright? Advice please - Kath

Kath,
I have never done a virtual before so you must forgive my first attempt . I envision your tree somewhat like this. I do have a tendency to prefer smaller trees and yours could concievably be styled this way with a small jin on the right and with some wiring I think it would look good. IMHO.
Regards,
Jonathan

I think the first heavy bend to the right is not suitable for a kaskade.
Grow it as an informal upright and hide the bend a bit.
See my picture!

if you rotate it to the right about 30 degrees. and prune the top also the left branch. I guess that's a semi cascade....

Hi Tom,
The line of the trunk does go slightly to the back but them comes forward again. Not quite sure what you mean about the roots, there are a few young ones at soil level - Kath

Hi Kath,
I have to agree with Clay, The Japanese White Pine is a fussy tree, as you did not tell us for how long you are growing this tree (and I fill that it is a new one for you) I would live it as is for a few years.
BTW I think that your Japanese White Pine is grafted on Japanese Black Pine.
