Japanese Hornbeam
I bought this Japanese Hornbeam after the top of the tree had died back which you can see in the first picture. My intention is th cut the stump back and hollow out the trunk. Then I intend to regrow a new apex. I was inspired by the hollow trunk mountain maple shown in Peter Chan's book Bonsai Masterclass.
Couple of matters, I'm not sure I should leave the lower limbs or remove them. I hate the nebari, so I'm not sure if I should cut the unsightly roots off at some point and expose more of the lower trunk and hopefully better nebari. Or, pot it in a deeper pot (which I am in the process of doing) and scar the lower roots and trunk so they'll send out new roots. Thoughts? Last edited by Yandrosxx : 1-Apr-2008 at 01:09 AM. |
