Japanese Bonsai Are Better...
at least on the web! I tried a search on google Japan for bonsai using the kanji for bonsai, and came up with a lot of images. Much better than you find with an English "bonsai"
Hope the link works: http://images.google.co.jp/images?h...sa=N&tab=wi&lr=

Excellent, Matt! I've wanted to do something like that, but I didn't know how.
A suggestion for the treebay links page: how about links to google.jp image searches for the kanji for various terms, e.g. shohin kusamono bunjin etc... That would be amazingly useful, and not something that I could just go and do myself. --- On a more humorous note, what I can say for the English-language search is that the first golf ball doesn't appear until several hundred entries into the search whereas in the Japanese search, the second image (!!) ![]() has a golf ball and, for that matter, a whole gosh-darned fairway.

well, here are a few to start with, some of the kanji weren't returning any image hits at all (like bunjin-gi and chokkan) for some reason. They're probably just poorly captioned. Shohin ?¬•i–~?Í small bonsai Shohin Bonsai neagari ?ª?オ‚èexposed root Neagari nejikan ?€Š² curved trunk nejikan

Ah....heaven!!!!! Thank you, Matt! One particularly rich site to which these photos lead is the following: All Japan Shohin Bonsai Association. Dozens of inspiring trees there! Carl

I spent a couple hours last night going to sites from the original link the Matt stated the thread with. Interesting how you can find all sorts Asian bonsai web sites. I saw sites from Hong Kong, Korea, and Taiwan as well as the many Japanese ones.
Copyrights stink in this case. I would love to post some of the photos I have seen to discuss these trees. There are some in styles I don't think I have seen before, or are interpreting the style in a way that I haven't seen. For example there was this black pine cascade, several trunks all cascading. Also bonsai of all quality, clearly "mallsai" are not unique to western countries. Last edited by Ralph : 12-Sep-2003 at 11:43 AM. |
