Not exactly my best side. We'll just assume the poor quality of the human subject is due to the photography.

Hi DwightFloyd,

here is a picture after the wire came off this weekend. It is ready to be repotted to a better angle, leaning forward as it pretty much is here then a little to the left 9as you look at it). That followed by a wiring of all the branches near the apex and the small branches coming off main branch, and it will be getting there. I always like to go back and look at the tree in the box when ever I begin to wonder if it is coming along too slowly. I decandled too late last year, late July because I was on the road for work swo much, this year it got done around the 4th of July. I would like the needles to be a little longer on this tree, so it might be a 3rd week of june tree next year.

John

Thanks John ! I love it. The principal branch seems to be demphizing the straight portion of the trunk.

BTW , I find this particular JBP and some of those you showed on your other JBP thread very refreshing. I'm so tired of a ball of bark with a short , deformed tree growing out the top. Sumo JBP are worse than sumo maples.

John,

You have inspired me to go work on a scots pine I have in the ground. It is about 4foot tall and is similar to this. I plan to dig it next spring just to move it but maybe it goes into a pot I wired it last year, so now I will go take the biting wire off and do some trimming.

Dwight, even the short fat ones need love too

Jason

Jason,
There are a lot of potentially really, really nice pines being "discarded" as yard pines. This tree has been a lot of fun for me because a number of "club experts" had declared it "not even good enough to be a yard tree". It won't be a great tree, but I take a great deal of joy out of working on it. Plus it gives that rugged mountain pine feel to a Japanese black pine, you know an easy to work on pine (for me at least), that we don't normally get. Being more of a "technician/craftsman" than artist, I depend on the reliability of my material to get the result that I am looking for.

Cheers,
John

Looks incredible......... that is the beauty of bonsai....the different visions that people have for a tree....I can't understand why someone would not have worked on this tree..let alone think that it wasn't good enough for work to even be done on it...

First off...I think that JBP is already a beautiful bonsai.
Second... Please start a thread on those do's and don'ts. I would love to hear them.
