Japanese Black Pine- Yard Pine

Ok, one last tree for a while. I originally posted the initial "styling" of the JBP last year, but I wasn't patient enough to find it in the Archives. Tree was reworked, and continues to develop, it is about 36" tall. There will be some hard choices down the line. So what are they and what can we do with this tree? I am posting what the tree looked like in Dec 2004 when it was in a "box", looking to be a yard pine.

Really nice tree, beautiful in fact. It has one little flaw that would drive me to distraction, the straight section where you have the Shari. Is there any way you can put a jack on it and pull a little curve in the trunk at that point?

Great tree! I'm with Vance on the trunk but if you are not able to put some movement in that area don't worry...it's still a great tree! Thanks for posting!

I am fairly new to bonsai. A tree like this inspires me to carry on. It is a beautiful tree.

John,
You have done wonders with that "yard tree." Sure glad you bought it because I hadn't done anything with it in the 8 years I had it. I knew you could turn it into something respectable.

Very nice pine. I'm glad that it's doing good and candling.

Vance,
I to find the straight stretch tedious. I will reassess next winter when the wire is off and we have pulled the needles. One of Marco's suggestions for this tree was to extend the shari to continue deemphasizing the trunks volume and straightness. Will continue watching and working. John

Nice tree and nice job on it. I have a little quibble with the main descending branch on the right side. From the picture, it appears to be a little heavy on the foiliage. It weighs down, to some extent, the light feeling of the trunk and other branches. Could be the photo though...

Rock,
Thanks for the comment. I went out and looked at the tree a few minutes ago at the angle the picture was taken and I blieve the apparent density is a photographic artifact. I will try and get a picture of foliage pad architecture, it really is fairly open and needs a better photographer.

This is a bump to link this up with the smallish JBP thread on candle/needle work. Will post pics when I am out in the garden this weekend. John
