Sorry, I thought of that before I posted this as a separate post, but people have a habit of ignoring updated posts and I'm asking a different question. I would prefer to just be able to put "updated" or something similar on the original thread, but there doesn't appear to be a way to do that on this forum.

I understand your point. I'm just trying to figure out if I should go ahead and cut off the trunks or leave them. If I did a clump, I planned on cutting the trunks shorter, just haven't figured out where, or whether I should deviate from my orginal thought.

I'd rather get the foundation done and then leave it alone. As opposed to insult it this year and then again next year or the year after.

Where would you cut them down to do a clump?

Also, because the tree was growing on hard clay, it has a very large number of feeder roots near the surface nearly all of which I was able to keep. I suspect it's going to do well. We'll see.
