Bald Cypress First Styling

Hello Everyone,

This weekend, I worked a bald cypress dug in February 2002. It had a weak first year, but this spring, it came back with a vengance so I think it was ready. This was dug near a slough where beavers kept it pruned, but it was done with very little finesse so a lot of knobs and stumps are everyhere. This is an attempt to make the bad cuts look more natural. Tell me what you think.

Thanks,

David

David I like this tree, I would trade a collected Honeysuckle for it in a minute.

The only suggestion or question I would have is regarding the 'hollow' you created up high by the right hand branch, This hollow looks small and extremely round. I would think about opening it up to the bottom in an irregular way so as to give a more natural look. Generally speaking I find uneven cut outs more desirable. Now, if you tell me this tree will completely close up this hollow I may understand, but think it will still look better when closed if it was less regular.

Jay,

It's funny you should mention.....I got up early this morning and while drinking my morning cup of coffee decided a couple of spots needed more work. Here's the latest.

Excellent work and good initial styling. I like what you have done with the carving too.
