I'm Back Fellows

Hello,

For the ones who know me, it's a pleasure coming back here... For you who don't know me... It's nice to meet you....

Today I felt like a bonsai artist, I wanted to work my day really fine, since I had a holliday... I was walking through the aisles of the nursery looking at the trees with no intention of buying. But the tree below called my atention, I don't really know the species, but it folwers pink, and it's really nice. It might been there forever, you might tell because of the caliper of the tree, it's maybe 2 or 3 inches wide... So I brought it home and decided it will be a nice (really nice, I think) brooming style tree... I guess that when it flowers it will be great...

well, take a look...

Now, when I came home, removed some branches which were allocated all together in a spot, then wired a little, just to open the branches a bit, then defoliated, in order to get more branches, and this is what I got...

is there a bulge in the trunk,[just above soil] or is that just a trick of the picture?

It actually has one, because, there used to be a branch. But I hope it will be softened in a while...

Jose,

That "bulge" looks suspiciously like a graft union to me. If so, you better get used to it because they aren't known to soften that much (some are better than others).

Good luck with it,

John

John:

I thought so also when I saw it, but I noticed it when I was home already (Just a little bit late, naaaahhh, I would bring it home anyway, I really needed to work on a tree, to feel the smell of the leaves, of the grass and the soil, to get my hands dirty and the great sensations of bonsai ).

Anyway, it is not a graft (at least to my newbie eyes). It was produced when a big branch was cutted from that place. It still has the scar of the old branch. If I would have a better camera I would like to show it to you . Anyway, let's hope it softens a little. If not (glup) it will still be a nice tree to care of ... It is really strong, since it's already back budding, really small buds, but...

Anyway, at the end of the year, after a lot of pinching and inducing it to get all bushy I will show it to you, I hope it will be a nice tree to see...

Anyway, if you have any advice to help me, I would love to listen to it...
