I Know There Blue Berries, But Are They Blueberries

Anyone tried blueberries as a bonsai subject?

Minature Blueberry, var. Top Hat
Vaccinium corymbosum

I came across this plant at a nursery and had to have it. The leaves look small, it gets blueberries and there edible, and the branching is great. This plant had some attributes that made it a perfect little accent plant in the clump style. I may use it in my Shoin Shadows show if it gets going in time.

Closeup of the leaves just starting to unfurl. They sort of look like little pomagranite leaves. I can't wait to eat the berries, the web sites say the make excellent bonsai. We'll see.

Regards, Bonsai-al

I just ordered one of these myself. Not for bonsai though. However, if it lends itself to such an application down the road, I won't argue with it.

My sister has a Blueberry plant in her garden that would look abs/fab in a bonsai pot. She wont part with it......willingly.

When I left my old house several months ago, I brought a large Blueberry with me. It looks to me like "there's a bonsai in there somewhere", but I just can't seem to get my head around where! It's pretty large, but seems to want to send out suckers and sucker-like branches that don't appear to want to ramify. I will put it into a grow box this Spring, since the clay pot I had it in for the Winter completely broke up, and send in a picture. Maybe somebody will be kind enough to offer a suggestion or two.
