Greggles, there is risk in anything we do.... transplanting can, if done incorrect, kill a tree. The drastic cut back that Walter suggests is do to his seeing the tree in 5 -10 years down the road. He is trying to get you to get the best tree you can. We do not have ability ranking in our Bonsai group.... but I think if we did, everyone would agree that Walter is one of those who belongs in the top group of knowledge. Doing what he suggests is perhaps not the only way but it is a way that will produce an outstanding tree... in time!

my 2 cents
Jay

yea! Thanks! I've had a look at walter's profile and his site and looks very impressive. There is an old lady here in australia who is one of the best in sydney and I go visit her store and get tips from her daughter every now and then which is really cool. I'll post some updates of what will happen to this walter cut tree hehe.

My mother in law is in shock with what I've done to her azalea...

...hehe..she'll live...

Greggles, I'm guessing you might be in Sydney and you are talking about he the Koreshoff family. If I'm right you should consider the National Bonsai convention in Canberra in April. Walter will be the headliner and surely can't be missed.

Well, after 12 days...the azalea have finally budded!!! There are many tiny tiny little buds on the tree and it will continue to bud during this last month of summer here! I will post pictures when it does grow new leaves.
