Lightbulb How To Improve Repotting Efficiency!

Oh dear, is "efficiency" a word we should discuss in art/bonsai?

YES absolutely - any time or effort saved on the boring, but necessary, jobs like wiring screens into the bottom of pots means more time to spend on the other important improvements and refinements you can make to your trees. Let's face it - spring is a busy time.

Tip 1:
Buy your pots early, buy your screens early and wire the screens into the pots early over the dark boring winter months. This not only saves time in the spring, but means that your trees can spend the minimum time out of their pot with the roots drying out.

Tip 2: (And what this post is really about)
Improve your wiring efficiency by creating TWO wire staples at the same time, rather than one...! How? I hear you gasp.

Step One.
Using square-nosed pliers, make the first 90 degree bend in the wire, with the bend at the length of the staple length you require.

Step Two.

Bend the wire another 90 degrees - (nothing new yet). However, instead of now cutting the staple, contine the wire for double the distance of the first section of the staple.

Step Three.

Bend the wire again over into an elongated rectangle, back to the starting point.

Step Four.

With a large set of cutting pliers, cut as shown.

Nice tip Emperor Fish. I agree, I already have a half dozen pots screened and ready to go. I guess I'm a bit anxious for next spring.
