Gday Joelin!

I'm no expert on Lilly Pillies, but I do have a couple that I've kept alive and well for a few years now. There are many different genera and species of trees and large shrubs which are variously called Lilly Pillies (see this post for more confusion), and from what I can gather, most are quite adaptable. Provided adequate water, both my Lilly Pillies (one unidentified and one Waterhousea floribunda) were able to thrive in full sun (and I mean full sun) throughout Melbourne's ridiculously hot, dry Summer (06/07). I'm guessing that a bit of shade in the hottest part of the day would be a good thing, if only to keep the roots from drying out too quickly. I don't know if you're frost prone in Adelaide, but I found that my Lilly Pillies suffered a little from the heaviest frosts of the 06 Winter. The nett result was that the trees were effectively tip-pruned, and they appeared to 'auto-ramify' come Spring.

Good luck.

FlyBri.

Lilly Pilly is a pretty resilient species. I obtained one from a mate of mine that was given to him by by someone who had grown it in a car (Holden) hub cap for ten years (no drainage). It had a terrible nebari so I tried to ground layer and succeeded second time around. It is thriving well and enjoys being defoliated in February. It is in full sun at all times and gets watered like any other species so don't worry about pampering this species despite its delicate name.
