Here's my first tree. It's a ulmus parvifolia. I went to a friend that did bonsai for a long time to ask him if I could make a bonsai out of some oak seedlings in my garden and I came back with some borrowed books and this tree. It's still alive. I've chopped and wired it since but I don't have a picture of it right now.

regards, René

Like several others here, I can't show a pic of my first tree because it died. It was a mallsai juniper that I kept indoors and worked on mercilessly. The other first trees were a San Jose juniper and kingsville boxwood. All worked on too much, all dead now.

I still have some of my earlier trees, including a juniper and a south african pzzle bush (ehretia rigida) that I bought as a rooted cutting on eBay four years ago. It's doing very well, and will probably go into a bonsai pot in a couple of years. No pics right now since I'm having software problems with my camera.

Here is the first of the trees that I kept alive. I killed a lot before I learned what to do. Since then I have only killed about 5 trees.

My First Tree

Japanese Juniper - died because of lack of water.

My second tree (also a japanese juniper) died because of over-watering.

Needless to say I studied watering quite thoroughly after this...

This is my first bonsai. I am happy that it is still alive This posting inspired me to do a little work to it. So here it is.

About 3 months ago I added some uro to the trunk. Now I restyled it. This mallsai is well on it's way to becoming a bonsai.

I don't have a picture of my first bonsai (Acer palmatum) I lost it last summer in our heat wave. It would dry out completely before I could get home and water it again. I even had it sitting in a dish of water and that would be bone dry by the time I got home and yes I drenched it every morning before work and had it in the shade =/

This year I will be starting with a larger plant with more water retentive soil mix to try and get it to grow.

But For now I have a barbados cherry growing under some grow lights. I'm hoping I can get a pic of that one soon.
