Horsehead Rock

The rock is from Japan, and the procumbens nana is from nursery stock, in training about 10 years. Height from table is 24 inches to the top of the rock. The roots are secured into a pocket in the base of the rock, and grow into the pot.

Very nice Mike, reminds me of very similar scenes in the Queen Charlottes more so and even off the west coast of Vancouver Island. Only real variance from these is they commonly have huge roots running over the rock for great distances.

Easy to see a lot of work and thought went into this piece, thanks for sharing!

Hi Mike, this is a fine piece with a real sculptural quality to it. I remember seeing it before and it is continuing to improve.

For some reason, I find myself wishing that the stone was just a little taller so it looks more like the tree is clinging to a cliff. Maybe you could build it up with another stone? I have seen that done before.

Also, that little outcropping of rock I have added to the lower left side would make it look more like the tree is tucked in a crag. Without it it kind of looks like the stone is about to crush the tree. You could just choose a couple similar rocks and put them on the left side to make it look like the stone's base is wider and more stable.

Regards,

Matt
