Honeysuckle Demonic

I was fortunate enough to be invited to Nick Lenz's bonsai sale and this Lonicera followed me home.

The tree is 28 inches tall from soil line to top. The Nick Lenz pot is 21.5 inches x 16 inches.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a lonicera that big. Even without the demon head in the trunk this is a very imposing tree.

Thanks for sharing candy

That's a fine looking tree Ms Candy, which Nick has worked his magic upon. Do you have any visions for its future development?

All the best,

Aaron

Good on you Ms. Candy...You have the largest collection of Mr. Nick's trees that I know of, so of course I am quite envious of that...

In my opinion there are many here in the States that create some very nice looking trees, but there are very few 'true artists'...Mr. Nick is probably at the very top of my list of 'artists' in this country...

When one views a Nick Lenz tree, most are so distinguishable that you not only will never forget the tree, but after seeing several one can usually tell his work without seeing the credits...That to me is what it means to be an artist...

Thanks for sharing your good fortune...

Regards
Behr

Nice tree and pot Candy!!
It does my heart good ( and renews my faith a bit) to see someone appreciate such work(s) enough to let them "Follow them home"!

I've seen some wonderful honeysuckles collected in the NE

Soonami -

This is also the biggest lonicera that I have ever seen. I planted some lonicera twigs about twenty years ago and they are only the diameter of a wrist. It makes one wonder about the age of this "spirit", dosen't it?

The size of the tree and the care in carving are the attributes that communicate power and grace to me.

At this point, I consider this a specimen composition. The artist has determined that his work of art is complete. I respect the artistry and will work to maintain the integrity and spirit of design.

Thanks, Wes. It would be facinating to know the past experiences of trees...if our trees could only talk ...what would thay say?

Behr -

Some early mornings, I walk in my gallery and am renewed and inspired at the wonderful compositions that touch my life. I realize how fortunate that I am. I wish that Nick's trees were not tucked into some secreted New England garden but available to share the experience of magic and awe to everyone. (Aaaaahhhhhh, so that is what the internet is for?)

Innovation and creativity are the qualities that seperate the bonsai artists from the bonsai mechanics in my mind. I agree, Nick Lenz is also at the top of my list.

You are right. There is an ethereal quality that marks his work. Nick is able to leave his personal mark on a bonsai composition and still be true to the tree. (That moment of recognition - putting the artist and composition together without benefit of the credits - puts a smile on my mind.)
