Arrow Holiday Tree Show

I posed a question in the general section in this thread, http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthread.php?t=9282, and Matt suggested that a thread be started as a show of sorts for decorated bonsai trees.

Now, virtuals are good, but i would like to see your real trees in a festive state!!! For the fun of it, anyone who is interested in posting a decorated tree, please be kind enough to show your tree before it was decorated and after. I think this lends to the overall appreciation of your efforts. this is not a contest, it is just for fun. I will post my own tree soon, gotta decide which one to decorate, hehe!! Well, have fun with this!!!

This is my BonsaiTalk contest tree decorated for our clubs annual tree decorating contest…I have made some modifications to the tree…I lost the front branch so I jined and lime sulphered it…I will probably shorten it more later…This took care of the square corner in the top left as mentioned by Mr. Walter in the contest critique…I also made the jins on the deadwood part more varied in height to lessen the ‘antler appearance’, I think Walter was spot on with this…

I used some miniature lights tied with black embroidery thread to mimic the traditional San Antonio Riverwalk Christmas lighting style…The wreath was made from tinsel pipe cleaners formed into a circle, then the red beads were attached with gold metallic embroidery thread, and the miniature Santa ornament hung in the center…the garland on the pot is green pipe cleaners hung with miniature pine cones and holly berries…the toys under the tree were also miniature ornaments that I removed the hanging thread from and drilled and glued in a short wire to hold them in place…

The second pic is a detail photo of the decorations…

Regards
Behr

Photos I took of some of the trees at our bonsai club [San Antonio Bosai Society Inc.] December meeting…

First place tree about 22 inches tall was a Green Island Ficus trained in the root over rock style by one of the founding members of the club…She said this tree has been in training about 20 years, and she spent 5 years slowly lowering the soil level on the rock…Her patience paid off this is a gorgeous tree I only wish the photo showed the roots better…The tree was decorated with antique ladies jewelry, [broaches, pins, beads, ear rings, etc.] and battery operated clear miniature lights…

My tree was awarded second place in the voting, each member voted for one tree by ballot…

Third place tree about 7 inches tall was a shohin Ficus Nerifolia owned by another founding member…The tree was started as a root cutting about 15 years ago…it was decorated with miniature poinsettia blooms and tinsel with a poinsettia accent…

Regards
Behr

More photos of club members decorated trees…

First photo is a Black Olive about 16 inches tall decorated with beads and miniature ornaments…

Second photo is a San Jose Juniper about 20 inches tall decorated with an assortment of antique decorations the owner had…The soil was covered with cotton to mimic snow…

Third Photo is a Variegated Bougainvillea about 15 inches decorated with assorted clear ornaments…

Regards
Behr
