Good stuff. Thanks for sharing.
I think I'll stick with the raffia, however. When the branch cracks during bending, I would think the moisture in raffia would help it heal.

Interesting technique Rob. I would like to see it done in person. The black pine looks great. I am not sure about that lowest branch though.

Rob,
Didn't know you were going to the workshops. I also heard about the use of rubber instead of raffia. Quentin mentioned it to me. Would be interesting if anyone out there has had any experience with both methods and comparison notes. I guess a Japanese master saying it is better and has been using it for 5 years is a pretty good indication of its advantageous use over raffia.

Looking through my pics i found a close up of the trunk ,It's actually 2 trees wound together
and been grown like this for 20+ years I thought it was wire marks |

I guess I wasn't clear. I should have asked on branches or trunks that are smaller that would normally require raffia to protect for heavy bending is the rubber still used? Thanks Adam |

Yes anything that would requre rafia you could use rubber insted
