Hinoki Cypress - Needs Help!

Hi all, i havent posted for ages & most of you proberly won't even remember me! oh well *grin* anyway i have recently bought this hinoki cypress, it is approximately 10 years old. i love this young tree and im worried about it.

it's a very bronze colour! i know they can tend to go brownish in the winter and then go green in the summer months but this tree has stayed brown with only a small amount of green on the tree all year!! it was repotted last spring. but it should have gone green by now as we are well and truly into our spring here in australia.

ANY idea's on how to get these trees looking healthy and how do i get the foliage to go greener and stay green for most of the year? any tips, idea's, comments would be appreciated. thanks.

here's a pic of it! photo taken today.

Welcome back!

Color change is okay as long as it doesn't get crispy. Most of the false cypress, Junipers and Cryptomeria undergo a color change in the fall and it can last until midspring when the green color should return. Colors vary from green to rust or bronze even tinged with crimson.

I had a Chamaecyparis that stayed a little brown into early spring, when the new growth came out. False cypress like this like it cool and humid and bright (well, for Australia, 1 out of 3 isn't bad!)

Regards,

Matt
