Hinoki Cypress

Walter, I know that the background is bad but I would like some input on where you would see this tree after this springs restyle. The pads are out of control and need thinning. I would like to reduce them but I would like to know how much. I know that they can be touchy and drop whole branches if you prune to much at one time. The bottom branch is long enough to stretch either right or left. The tree is 39" tall and the nebari is 6 inches across at the base. If you would like to see a montage of how this tree looked when I purchased the nursery stock let me know and I will post the series on another forum, maybe beginner. Thanks Bonsaial

Re: Hinoki Cypress

Not bad!! So you feel that the top needs to be fuller? I thought just the reverse. The top is jinned, should I just let the tree grow over it?

Re: Hinoki Cypress

No, I think that the crown should be thinner and the foliage pads should be opened to loose the poodle-like pompon appearance. This was Ulf's virtual. Here is my modification.

Re: Hinoki Cypress

I like this alot. Now if I could only persuade this tree to grow more branches near the to, I would feel better. i will try to wire the tree this spring and see what happens. Better still maybe I will work on it this weekend. uh..oh... I think I hear my wifes honey-do list growing as we speak..... thanks Walter, bonsaial
