Buy a pile of mulch and partially set the pot down in it. Make sure it still has good drainage. That's the cheapest way.

Johnny, I attended a show a couple weeks ago and watched a demo by Roy Nagotoshi on a Hinoki. In two hours he transformed a 3 gallon nursery stock into a tree nicer than any I have.

I have wanted to try never since.

Basically he left 2 or 3 inch stubs on the lower branches he trimmed and stripped the bark off of them to make them look like dead wood. He then left 5 or 6 branches on the upper half, wired them and bent them way down to make the tree look older.

Good luck.

Like this? Just kidding, I'm sure he did a better job. But I have hope for its future.
