This is where I'd go with it (beware people, my mind is crazy). First, cut off everything except what's in the bubble.

Tilt the planting angle and encourage these two branches, and a back branch would probably do quite a bit of good as well. The design I've shown is kind of radical but it could work. I believe the pot in the virt is also yours, TB.

When I look at the trunk of this tree I wonder how much foliage can this small of a trunk hold? Then I thought put a few rocks around the base to make the trunk look bigger. But then I thought why not just make it a mame and have a fineshed tree in just a few years. Here is a picture (sorry it is so small, I could only use the size of picture you had so I couldn't make the trunk any larger than it already is)-

OMC, thanks for asking. It is coming along nicely, although progress is a little slower than I'd hoped.

diamondlyme84 & dbz12fan, thanks for your interesting virtuals. Problem is though, this thread is 6 months old, I've already done most of the rough shaping already. Thanks anyway chaps.

Here is what I have done. I started out heading for Juliet's virtual as in post #7, but I was a bit heavy handed with bending the top, it broke clean off.

Then I had to decide whether to go for René's idea, or to grow the top on and try for Juliet's design after 2-3 years. René's idea won, but with a few changes of my own.

After the fiasco with breaking the top off, I was wary of bending the low right-most branch as I have shown in the virtual, post #3. I went for a more gradual bend, and kept fingers crossed for a new bud low on that branch. No luck yet on that.

This picture is from late April this year. It shows quite clearly where I had wired, and gives an indication of where I am heading for this tree.

This picture was taken 10 minutes ago.

In the last previous picture, notice the moss on the surface. I think it is called Irish Moss, I've seen it for sale on ebay as such anyway. The problem with it is that it completely takes over the pot unless it is removed every month. I hadn't removed it for several months, and it's vigorous growth was having a detrimental effect on the tree. The leaves normally turn a darker green after the first bright green spring flush, but hadn't. The tree looked ill.

I decided to repot, a bit late but the weather is mild here, and I can give it good protection from wind etc.

Here is the result, I took the opportunity to change pots, although this new one is still not right. I have taken all the wire off, it was applied last autumn and was starting to bite.

Future development?
Well, I want to keep lowering the lowest left branch to horizontal or just under.
I would like to have the low right branch that sticks almost straight up bent somehow, or failing that just shortened and not so straight up.
The thick 2nd branch to the left (just visible in the pic) is too thick. It is way thicker than the one below it. I may cut it right off, and start over again with one of the buds that are currently at the base of this branch.

Pot?
Don't know. Suggestions welcome.

So there you have it. Comments, suggestions and virtuals most welcome.

Regards,

TB

Here is one pot idea. This is obviously the wrong pot.

I like where you have gone with this tree, TB!

I think the shape of this pot suits the tree fairly well, but the color is wrong. Glazed would probably be the way to go.

Sorry, I just post when I see a new thread. I never thought a six month old thread would come up.
