Help Needed With Styling This "bonsai"

Hi, I have this serissa. It looks crappy to my eye and propably to yours as well. It has poor roots and the trunk is horrible! It would be nice if someone could give me some styling advice on this tree

i would just cut that branch on the far left and the root that's jutting out on the far right. other then that maybe you could plant it on top of a rock or make it cling the side of a rock. time will make it look better.

TP, this tree is not nearly as poor as you are making it out to be. It is actually a not-so-bad example of a style that was popular many years ago that is no longer in vogue called Exposed Root Style. The roots are not bad at all; merely not in style now.

If it were my tree, I'd treat it as being the style that it is and not try to do a drastic make-over of the roots. Style preferences come and go and who knows what will be highly sought after in 20 years?

Regards, Fred

The only idea I had was to air layer the top of the tree. It might make a nice shohin in a few years. If not that then call it a penjing and learn to enjoy it. You might be able to wedge a rock between the roots.

Jee that look amazing ! It looks as if it's ready to leave you for someone else !
Anyway i agree with LivingArt . Cutting off the far left brunch seems the best thing to do.

Tiny plant,
A good wiring would improve this puppy 100 percent.

Remember roots can be wired also. They 're supple and soft. Go slow, but you could easily flatten them out if you want to.

The rest is just a layering and lowering of branches. You could even tie wire down whole branchs at this time then fine wire in the fall.

Make it so number one...
