Matt, you have a very pretty tree. Thanks for showing it.

In this area, we have a species known as Chickasaw Plum (Prunus angustifolia). I have never seen it mentioned in connection with Bonsai. It looks rather like your tree. I've found a fairly large thicket of it, with individual trees from 18" to 10 or 12 ' in height. I am planning to collect a few this Spring. Your picture really has me dreaming of it!

I think that is the basic idea, Rene, but maybe the development could be something along the lines of the half cascade that Kazuki posted, but more like a mirror image. The line is there, it would just need about 20 years of development!

Regards,

Matt

This is a wonderful Prunus ! Here's a virtual with only the right branch. It's planted in a different pot with a different angle. To be honest : I like it better the way it is !
Happy holidays !

René

Gosh, Clay, how incredibly cool! I'd love to see it. I guess you're aware that most photo developers will put 35mm pictures on a floppy for you. I'd love to see your tree. How long have you had it?

It's very inspirational to hear that an accomplished bonsaist uses this species. I'm assuming that its cultivation is just like any other cherry or plum. Does your experience indicate anything different? I'm also assuming it to be pretty easy to collect and pretty able to handle "bare root" treatment in the Spring if in good, healthy condition. Did you collect yours? Did you have any special problems?

I will try to post the best one I get this Spring.

Thanks, very much, Clay. Your tree has the same kind of sharp, "spikey" look that the trees in my thicket have. I just love it!

I mentioned in another thread that I just got my wife a digital for Christmas. Of all things, my sister in NJ sent our family another! Card said something about no more excuses for not keeping her family updated with pictures of ours! Think she was talking about my "Bonsai Family"?

Well, your before and after pictures make me think that this Spring is the time to start with "before" pictures of many of my trees. I'd been thinking in terms of pictures of completed trees being appropriate as well as, perhaps, some photos sent in to Bonsaitalk for advice. Your pictures really brought home, somehow, how much picture taking on a regular basis every year or two adds to the enjoyment of Bonsai.

I also appreciate seeing how you treated the large branch scar. The before and after helped me visualize how to do an operation like that over time.

Regards, Fred

Nice tree Matt, and a happy new year to you... but... shouldn't it be happy birthday first??

Regards,

TB
