Grow Box

okay I asked about these japanese maples and was told to either plant in the ground or in a grow box and let them grow so I made myself a big grow box out of some left over fencing.
From left to right are: the 2 japanese maples I had posted about wanting advice then another japanese maple thats about 30 inches tall or so and in one of my smaller spots is a pine I rescued from a weedeater. Notice there is an empty spot there. ANY DONATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!! The openings for the 3 larger spots are 14x14 and the smaller 2 are 7x7 over all about 20 minutes work and a low cost of left over material from my fence.

the 2nd maple is growing at a slant that is why it looks so small and that I'm not that good with the camera

This is nice. The only reason I prefer grow box to ground is that you can work on the tree at the desired height. No need to get on the ground to examine your tree.

In your case, this maybe difficult, since it's a multi grow box, but again thos tree are supposed to be untouch of a certain period of time

I solved the problem of being able to work it at a height so i dont have to be on the ground. I have 2 old saw horses that can be easily placed underneath to raise it up.
Also if anyone is wandering what the wood at the base in front is, it is just more fencing that I need to find a use for so I just layed it in front of the box like a little patio or something.

Gcraft, what you've done looks very neat and attractive and is a great start with the material you have. I wish that I lived closer to Indianapolis; if I did I be happy to give you 10 or 12 of my Bonsai starters, probably from my grow bed. Even though I've been warned not to give trees away. Seems like alot of folks don't appreciate what they get when you do that. Though my bet is that you'd be very appreciative and take excellent care of them.

We're very close to Fall now and you might want to collect some seeds from your local trees to work with next year. Take a look at my thread in the Propagation section of this site and let me share some of my enthusiasm for working with seedlings with you. Just don't let any of the real veterans here know that you're doing it; you might get a scolding for spending your time on projects with such a long time horizon!

Seedlings are really cool to work with. I agree with you fred! Lots of people say not to waste time with them, but time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time!
Im started a big seed project in the spring, about 1000 seeds, bunch of different species! Should be alot of fun
