Green Thumb Bonsai

Well all I am back from my trip to BMW, the business trip went well and still allowed me a little time to check out Green Thumb Bonsai Nursery. I did not get a bunch of pictures as it was getting dark and I needed to focus on picking something for myself . I did not get any pics inside the greenhouse but it was great in there.

John Green runs the shop, he is a joy to talk with! John if you are reading this sorry for calling you Don

John recently purchased a whole bonsai nursery from California. He has some of the BEST material I have ever seen!!!! His prices are very resonable and it only cost me $15 to ship two trees (hokkaido elm and japanese maple) back to Michigan (I'll post picks when they get here).

This is the best nursery I have ever been (havn't been to many but...)!! His web site is not updated with the new stock because he wanted to make sure it is all healthy after the move. He has nearly anything you want. If you are looking for something in particular shoot him a line and he will go looking and snap some pics.

He has the best hokkaido elms I have ever seen. Many Japanese black pines, hornbeams, boxwoods, maples (trident, japanese, corkbark), stewartia, ezo spruce, flowering apricots, crabapples, beech, shimpaku (large ones) and many wonderful collected bald cypress.

This place is well worth the trip!! If you are anywere near there go. In addition to the small yard that I saw he has two other farms full of material that I did not get to see!!!!!!! Call for appointment. Look for his add in the back of the new ABS Journal.

From what you've said, this place sounds pretty nice. Would like to go!

But, too bad i'm in Florida and this place is in Cali.

Evan,
The place is actually in Greer, South Carolina. The nursery that he bought was in Cali.

And you don't need to actually go, he will ship trees and he does not charge for packing, only FedEx fees.

Hi Newt,
I can't help myself visiting places like that. I deliberately take a small amount of money with me (or none). Yet I still end up getting something put aside, and returning for it later.

Regards

I bought a trident stump from him last year; he has some of best prices anywhere and the quality was superb. I highly recommend buying quality stumps to start with, and John's are going to be a great investment, guaranteed. I'm so happy with my trident that I hope he gets a little more business out of this post. Wherever you are out there John, thanks.
All the best,
JDL

Johns place is in Greenville SC. right off of hwy.25 or (White Horse Road).
It is a great place to buy trees at a reasonable price. He is also the area mica pot dealer. John has his hands full taking care of his wife and ruuning his nursery, but he manages to do a couple of workshops throughout the year.
My friend and I went there this weekend and I came back with a nice trident maple. ( the second one from John). We'll probably head back down in a month or so when things really start to pop. Always a good place to stop.

Regards,
Dave
