GPS help....Iam lost

Any of you weekend collectors that get lost in the woods at a drop of the hat....like me, (should be I but me sounds better) .......... have any scoop on a GPS to purchase? I was going to show a picture of a satelite but I started feeling 'hot spots' so I chickened out.

Garmin makes a good product. Looks like the Glades, be careful of the gators.

OK thanks. The Colorado 300 costs 400 bucks. No mountain work just a couple miles off the road from my truck but no distant vision possible. Thick foliage and scarry animals and no sense of direction. If the sun goes behind a cloud (really if the cloud goes in front of the sun) I am going in the panic mode instantly, my compass starts to spin and I want my Mommy.

I like the Mio. Hubby bought it for me a couple of years ago. The handheld version at that time was in the $300 range. And it plays MP3s, too.

Another nice one Mio. I can't believe how many GPS's there are. I need hiking "breadcrumb trail" or track back that stores waypoints. Pretty slick.

By the way, for all you tech illiterates like myself, just got a cell phone types, Mp3 is like an iPod dude.

Don't tell the other cavemen but I am way over my head here!

You can get a cell phone that includes, internet, gps, camera, im, all the bells and whistles etc etc.. for cheapish these days. Alot of the major chain stores like walmart or best buy have deals, you get the unit for a discounted rate if you sign up for 1-2 years of service or you can buy the unit flat out.

Magellan makes some nice GPS units.... I picked up the Explorist 100 (orange one) from a friend but I think they are under $200. I used it for a few years and it worked pretty good. For Christmas I got the explorist210 and have yet to use it....next week I hit the mts!!!

The 210 Biege one, under $300 I think) allows you add maps to the unit of different states or national forests, etc... which will be a huge plus.

You want to look for units that are tough...that can withstand getting wet, getting dropped, getting beat up and can work under a canopy of trees.... I rate the magellan very high.

Hope that helps.

Jason

Cool, it's got a joystick and lots of buttons. I will be pushing them all at once I am sure.

I would normally suggest topo maps...but this is florida...where the elevation changes 12feet in a thousand miles...perhaps you should invest in a sumatran elephant who never forgets where she is....not really trying to help....unless your desperate for a cheap laugh....
