Good Harvest Today

Today I decided to go pick some Japanese Maple seeds off of the giant Japanese Maple in my front yard. I mustve been out there for about an hour, I was working on just one branch and look at how much I picked... I must have a billion!

Well... You could change your name to "johnny" and wander from state to state and scatter your seeds here and there. Who knows you may become a folktale.

Nice, Kazuki.

What will you do to get them to germinate? I collected a bunch a few weeks back, and after rubbing off the wings, I placed them in a damp paper towel in the refridgerator. Come early spring, I'll plant them. I'm not sure this is the best approach, though...

Best,
OMC

Ill probably put them in water until most of them sink, and throw away the floaters. then put it in a damp paper towel in the crisper drawer in the fridge until February ish. Then I just plant.. althought a lot of the ones outside germinate as well so I could just plant them outside, but the rodents love them so I keep mine inside until spring. They tend to germinate pretty fast.. maybe in like a week or two after you plant them..

Thanks for the tips on growing these from seeds. I've always had problems trying to do that.

I forgot to add.. I dont even bother taking off the wings because they come out of the other side, so it doesnt make a difference if you do or not

I've never had any luck growing them from seed either. I've heard the trick is to get them fresh and never let them dry out.
