bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Golden Gate Ficus

I have had this tree for close to ten years. It is the first preworked tree I ever bought. I immediately potted it into this position and have worked it in the past, but not in the last couple of years due to poor habitat for it.

The very top is far too much, needs to be cut way back and reworked from a stump in a banyan style. I plan to do the work next summer.

P.S. I should post this one over at bonsainut to let their award-winning ficus expert give me his opinion

Hi KC,

I think this would be best if air layered. I see the potential for 2 good trees. In the first pic I see a great base followed by some branching then the S curved mid and upper trunk blows the image, that's where I would layer ending up with the great base and branching ready to be grown out in a big ol pot then a pretty decent looking trunk from the upper section. The last ficus I layered was ready for separation in just over a month.. that's fast!

We should have a little ficus bonsai thunderdome, bonsaiTalks' ficus master Mr. Texas Andy vs Bonsainuts' ficus master Mr. slick Willy.

2 trees enter, one bonsai leaves.
