I'm no expert with tropicals, but I like what you have done so far. I may be exaggerating a bit, but with that trunk, I'd go for a wider banyan and encourage more aerial roots a little further out. Be careful with your main trunk, it seems thick above its initial branching.
All in all, I really like the tree and its possibilities. Good luck! Last edited by bonsaikc : 10-Sep-2005 at 05:55 PM. |

Thanks Chris,
This is really just a beginning. The larger trunk still shows a major chop and the ramification is not really there.I too, see it as much wider and eventually in a larger pot.I'm not sure why,but i seem to get more airial roots when a tree like this is potbound....I'll be working on those next year.I just did some very perfunctory(and ugly) wiring and tiedowns for this photo,to show where i think the design is headed. thanks again andy |

VERY nice banyan style.
If you have earlier pictures of it, please post so we can see. Personally, I'm a huge fan of people adding new pictures to their old threads to show progress ![]() pootsie |

Nice work on this one Andy. A few years of ramification will have it looking great.

Gday Andy! Just a beginning? Ease up on the humble pills! This is great - one of the more natural/realistic looking Banyan style trees I've seen in a long while. Regarding the aerial roots, I suppose it does make sense that once the roots in the soil have nowhere else to go, the tree is forced to grow new roots wherever it can - in this case, on the trunk and branches. I agree with both you and Chris about widening the whole arrrangement. Thanks. Fly - madly growing Ficus cuttings so he can also have a Banyan style... PS: Just saw Chris' virt - I do like the asymmetry that has been created. PPS: Is there any way you can get larger pics up? I noticed that you are approaching the 73.2Kb size limit, but you should be able to get pics at least 600x450 down to that size.
