Ginkgo Repotting-removing An Old Root

I removed a large root from one of my Ginkgos and thought I'd post the pics of the operation.

The first picture shows the root I removed.

I've wanted to remove it for some years but was afraid of what or was not behind it. Bill Valvanis convinced me I should go ahead and get rid of it to improve the nebari.

I tryed to find where the root went but I couldn't find it. I pruned the bottom of the root pad and took off as many large roots as I could find.

Ginkgos can rot pretty easily so I sealed the cuts since they will be getting wet every day.
