Ginkgo
Every year this Ginkgo looks just a little bit different than the previous year. Usually for the better I might add.
It's going on its eleventh year with me. I have no idea how old it is though. Thomas J ![]()

Re: Ginkgo
Nice and green TJ! I have difficulty getting this kind of foliage density on my ginkgo-s I am beginning to believe that the roots are not very frost hardy, and since I have begun to overwinter them with a little more TLC, they seem to be doing better than before.
I also am keeping them out of full sun (California sun, here) and I have healthier looking leaves. I don't know if this is the complete answer, but they seem to be getting better. I have five plants, but they represent only two different cultivars. There are all kinds of interesting Ginkgo varieties, and a variegated one I have been trying to locate in the US, but I can't get a line on one. I added a couple links to the bonsaiTALK Links site on Ginkgo recently. Thanks for sharing!

Re: Ginkgo
In my experience Ginkgos are very root hardy. Here in Wisconsin mine have withstood temps of 0º F!
This is a fall 2000 photo of a Ginkgo that I purchased as a one year graft in 1976. It has been pot grown all it's life. The cultivar is *Autumn Gold*. The buds have just started to turn green. I repot it every 2 years because of the rapid root growth. It is now in a shallow round container and is about 32" tall. I think the secret is strong morning sun and a little shade in the afternoon and alot of fertilizer and water. I'll post a picture when it has some leaves on it. I just took some pictures to be developed today.
