fun with gingko's

Here's a gingko clump and forest I made just playing around with some two and three year seedlings. Very young looking but may be nice one day.

G'day Tim,

Nice ones, of the clump, I would allow all suckers to develope, anf grow, shall become more unrully and natural in time. The small forest is a neat shot.

Wish your pics were larger, as I can barely make out the detail, can you please rectify.

Regards,
Nigel

Gudday dudes, and others,

Ginkgos, yep, a thing I discovered quite quickly early on, and in my experience, ALL Ginkgo cuttings will ROOT, and almost at anytime of the year.

Am going to go thru and see what I've got [how many various small pots of them] and repot them all together today, and create a chaotic forest of sorts.

Will post pics, when I've done.

As to Ginkgo seeds, the best place to buy them is from any Chinese toko [supermarket] as the Chinese use them in their food supply range, they're usually untreated, very fresh, and I have found them to be very reliable, also practically a 100% germination rate.

Planting/germination procedures can be found in the 'Ginkgo Pages', you'll find that in Google, and this is the most informed Ginkgo site in the whole of the World.

Regards,
Nigel

Thanks nigel, I have been to the site before and I prepped by seeds last fall before leaving them out to break their germination inhibition. I collect those seeds from campus (about 100 of them) from female trees we had that were accidentally, I hope, planted. Most were picked off the ground as they dropped since the branches were too high to reach by hand.

As for the ginkgo nut availible at the chinese market, I saw a HUGE bin last week I was there for about $4 a pound, I feel bad for the poor guy having to pick all those sticky seeds

Nigel,

I'll post new pictures today.

As for germination I rub them on the pavement a couple of times to scratch the seed coat and place them in damp vermiculite for 30-60 days then plant in early spring. I get almost 100% germination.

Sorry dude,

But those pics of yours requires me to use a magnifying glass, and there just aint no detail left in there.

Someone else might be able to give you advice as to how to make your pics bigger, failing that.....

Regards,
Nigel

Ironically enough, I found three ginkgo seeds pushing up through the sand in the seed tray today

As for the pictures, are you scanning them? Because if you are, try adjusting the resolution and/or pict size to the largest size possible. Then you can scale them down in paint or photo freeware
