Fuchsia Marinka

Moved by Admin for general consideration...

Hi All & (Walter),

Now for something completely different, I like you to comment on this Fuchsia, which maybe isn't considered for bonsai, to most people.
I got it last year from a friend, who wanted to dispose it in the garbage. It is 21 cm high and 56 cm wide. It stands in a Tokoname pot and will be styled as a semi cascade.

In my own opinion, the left has to grow higher, so I will be able to create the triangle shape.

What are your thoughts for this tree.

Thanks for your comment,

Wessel

A more

refined state possibilty. Adding some age illusion with rounder tops and smaller foliage on the outstreched limb.

it's odd.........

or maybe magic how personal preferances and "vision" come into play with any artform.

I like the outstretched branch and even more so how Zen has virtualised it.I think it would look great in a land and water pot.

I think it looks like two different trees. They both will work, but not together. Now which one I would keep is something that I may take a whole year to contemplate. No need to rush. Maybe try the sheet trick to hide the other half and take some pics.

As my experience is mostly nonexistant. I see that left trunk seems to have gracefull movement, great potential with (what I can see with the leaf in the way) good developing taper. How hard is it to get these to back-bud? If you shortened the right trunk, instead of loosing it intirely, what would be the outcome?

I am interested in Fucia my self so this information would be very usefill.

Nice fuschia!

I like Karl's idea, except that I would shorten the extending branch back to the first spot of foliage, live with it for a while and consider removing the rest of the brach later.

Wessel,

I like Karl T.'s idea very much. Don't try to make a 'good' bonsai of this. Try to make a nice flowering half-cascade or cascade. See it more as an accent plant, as a flowering display. Every effort to apply standard bonsai rules is bound to fail Standard bonsai rules will make an idealized pine tree with big flowers. Silly!
