Very nice fuchsia.
The only problem I see is that with time you will most likely get some reverse taper as there is a bar branch with the first left branch and the second right branch. This point will swell up over time. However this I believe might me difficult to fix. Maybe trying to disguise that point with folage might help and bending the left branch lower down. You have a few options in trying to disguise that point.

Just my opinion.

Hi Johnathan, This was a cutting 8 years ago and have been training it eversince.
Thank you for the advice David, see what you mean about 'reverse taper' will have to give that some serious thought.
Kath.

Hello Tom
Nice to see you here as well. Thanks for the virtual, that looks great. Yes this particular variety comes back very quickly when pruned hard and broken branches heal very well. Thanks once again for the advice will do my best to achieve same.

Hi Kath,

First comes the compliment:
What a beautiful display of flowers, and a very nice tree overall.

Second comes the critique:
Basically the same as Bonsaimon. But also the roots could possibly be improved by bending the second from right root out towards the front, and away from under the rightmost root.

Third come the questions:
If I was to buy a garden centre fuchsias this spring, what would be the best advice you could give for encouraging it to develop a trunk, is there a particular method you use? Also which variety to buy?

TIA

Regards,

TB

Hi TB,
Firstly thanks for advice, will try to achieve same. In respect of purchasing fuchsias with intention to bonsai:-
(a) Any small flowered cultivars with short distance between nodes.
(b) The encliandra type fuchsias are ideal, have very small flowers.

(c) To develop a trunk. If it's a hardy variety grow in the garden for a couple of years. If it's a non-hardy variety grow in garden in summer, remove in Autumn and place in a flower pot for winter, if possible keep at 45f/8c during winter in greenhouse, and return to garden when all risk of frost has gone following year.
