Bald Cypress

This bald cypress was collected in February 2001. The first photo was taken Feb 2002 before cutting taper.

The top is looking great

You'll want to get the bow (panhandle) out of the branches now, while they are still flexible.

You can bend these branches quite a bit. You may hear some cracking but they are actually quite resilient.

Cypress

I found my personal limit for one man collecting with this tree. I don't think I'll ever attempt to dig another one this size. They always look smaller when they're still in the ground. I dug it late one afternoon and didn't have the energy to drag it out of the marsh, so I left it overnight in a slough and came back the next day to get it out. At the soil line it's 18". One foot up the trunk it's 7". And Matt....it's definitely scary hearing those branches crack. The taper cut and the branching is where I was looking for advice and comments. I think the base speaks for itself. Thanks again.
