Finaly Spring Has Comed To Norway

It's been a very cold winter in Norway with periods of temperatures below -25 C. Suprisingly it seems that most of my collection have survived. The Pines I collected last year are now starting to produce buds! I just love spring. Soon I will go and collect some more pines I found in the forrest last autumn. Some of them are very nice Bonsai material.

The picture is of a Pinus Sylvestris I collected last summer. I will just leave it in the growing box for another year before potting it up next spring. Beeing a newbie to this I'll have to ask for advice about prunig. Is it ok to do this now? I looks quite healthy? Do to the trunk diamenter/lenght ratio I guess I will have to go for a Literati design on this one. But I'm having a bit of trouble finding a nice way to define the apex. I'm also very scared of chopping off branches, in case i might regret it. Any advice or virtuals would be very much appreciated.

Hi Johannes,

That's a nice pine you have found. I found a picture of a similar pinus sylvestris. Maybe you could go in the same direction with it.

regards, René
