Fig Tree No Coke Can
hi every buddy
i for got my coke can sorry. a coke can placed next to the trunk would reach the bottom of the lowest branch. I have blanked out the background in case anyone wants to virtual (hint hint, nudge slap). The bottom branches have been left to grow long to thicken them up. the top ones kepts short so that they dont take over, but now i want to start to style this tree and get it into a training pot. Oh its a port jackson fig Ok - so here are the questions I know the branches have little taper but i will shorten and regrow them for ramifiaction anyway. Do i cut off the very bottom one - or leave it? (see my quick virtuals below) in my virtuals - i have added a mallsai blue pot (you know who you are ) but it will be going into a training box. do you think the tree is too tall?Any other comments would be appriciated too... and it does actually have back branches - they just dont show up too well in this pic cheers jules |

I think you are on the right track here. You have a formal upright trunk. Great root flare with good taper to the top. I tried a slant style, but it definitely wasn't working. I would say keep the lower branch until it all fills in and then look at removing it.
Regards, Matt

Jules,
I think you have some great material to work with. I like your tree very much. I do see your tree in a mallsai blue pot, lol. Again nice tree. ![]() Adam Last edited by Adam : 11-Jul-2002 at 07:32 PM. |

Great material. I like the bottom right branch. As Matt said, leave it for now, check later. Measure twice, cut once! I like the virtuals too. I like the first one better, because the extra branch just seems to balance the tree. The only thing I would change, is to bring the apex over to the right a little. It seems just a little off balance with the trunk. But this a little thing. AK

Anything would be better than the mallsai blue. How about this?
Seriously, that will make a nice tree. I love the nebari and the taper. I don't think it's too tall, mainly because of the great taper. To chop it off, would destroy that.Earl |
