Jules: I have been growing bonsai stock for about 15 years and it looks like you have a good start. I love to grow olives, they make exelent trees in all sizes. I also have tridents and baldcypress. I have found that each person will eventually find there own look in bonsai. Your fig looks an exelent start and I also like the styrophome growing box. I also use wooden growing boxes. The growing fields that I care for are in central California USA. Good Growing....ripsgreentree

Oh yes I did have one thing. Admirable taper, by the way. that must take time! Critique from a beginner, probably to be thrown out the window: Although the trunk is slanting to the left, I still am seeing a "hole" at the base there, and want to see some roots, something subtle to balance the base without changing the emphasis of strong roots on the outside of the slant. Just what I would want to see, knowing that it's easier said than done.

Interesting question about male and female. It's been said that thicker trunks _represent_ masculinity, but who knows if men or women prefer one or the other. You might expect men to like using power tools more, so maybe you'd expect to see more dramatic jin and shari among men. Also I guess you could expect men to want the really big trees so they can show off how strong they are lugging the things about!

But seriously who knows about all that stuff, I don't believe in it anyways.

The coke can is disgusting.... but the terrible wiring, the scars from branch removal and the foam box the tree is in are not?

As for the ruler(in inches or in cm's?)..well i dont tend to keep one handy but i do usually have a cold refreshing can of coca-cola handy when im potting up trees in training boxes...

That explains it...if your taste in beer is corona, need I say more. That may also account for your spelling but what it has to do with my fig - I will never know.

Should I never be seen as a 'bonsaist' in your eyes, it will be too soon for me, however I'm still quite happy with my trees.

Perhaps if you have nothing constuctive or at least interesting to say, you should say nothing at all, but Im sure you will...
