Very nice. I look forward to its coming "down" in the pot over the next few years.

Andy, like I said in chat, I think your trees are gorgeous. I'm a relative beginner, but my eye is drawn to the gaps in the canopy on the left side, which seem at odds with the more full canopy on the right. Is this intentional? If so, can you explain why you made that choice? Or will you let the left side fill in?

Thanks
Brian

Looks nice. I'd like to see the apex a little lower. Rough virt attached.

thanks........

thanks for the suggestions,gentlemen.

Bart....it's not as high as it looks in this picture, but it is still too high.I could have got it lower in this pot but the roots are completely fused at the base under the tree and i didn't have my chainsaw with me ....actually,i usually use a reciprocating saw(didn't have that either).I didn't have to cut many roots so i may retry in a slightly deeper pot or shave under the base some a little later this summer.Hopefully, I'll be better prepared at that point.

Brian....thanks for the compliment. There is a back branch recently pruned back hard. That usually fills in the gaps in the foliage on the left side.

Bob....The top of this tree froze in '91.If i would have done it "correctly",i would have let it grow wild for a season or 2.Instead i went right to work on refining any new growth that came out. There's not much up top to work with,so i will probably(most decidedly) let the canopy widen instead of lowering the apex.I do see your point, though. The future apex will be more rounded and the width will be wider than the heighth.

thanks again,

andy

new pot

I think i found a better pot for this tree.Even though i didn't do much root work i really seemed to stress this tree by transplanting twice(i knew better...i keep telling myself patience, patience )...anyway,it seems to be coming out of it now and i thought i'd share what i think is an improvement.

comments?

thanks,

andy

Another very nice nerifolia stock. I guess those do well in Southern Texas with your heat and humidity and long season. It's great they can be handled with root sawing ala Florida. It sure makes them look great in those shallow pots QUICKLY!!
Regards,
Dale
