Ficus Natalensis - A Strangler Fig
Ficus natalensis are true strangler figs. This property was used to create the bonsai below.
A piece of deadwood was shaped in the form of the trunk. Cuttings were wrapped around the deadwood and secured and left to grow. After about 2-3 years the figs were attached to the deadwood and had fused together. After another year or so the fig was cut back and the initial training was begun. By the end of this growing season it should fill out and both the refinement and leaf reduction can begin. Last edited by Hank Miller : 1-Dec-2003 at 08:50 AM. |
