Ficus Large Branch Problem

This Ficus was my intro to bonsai from my wife about 10 years ago....great sentimental value. The branch on the lower right is not producing like it should. can I chop or will it destroy the composition of the whole thing?. I figure I could wire some branches in its general direction in order to fill the void.
Oh...maybe a graft.
TIA
-Steve

steez, could you possibly take a picture of the tree with a plain background (even dropping a sheet behind it where it stands will work) and adjust the level of where you take the picture from so that we can see the tree from a better angle? this will help many of those of us who have viewed this thread help you with your tree. looking forward to the new pic.

Doesn't seem like you are getting much help at all. A few terse comments but not much help.
I hate to say it but you might just like what they have said better than what I am about to say.
No meanness just a statement of fact about you plant. And mind you I might be wrong. I only have your picture to go by.
From what I can see of the picture that you have posted you have what is commonly called a "Ficus too little". ( actually the sp. name is ficus benjimina 'princess marsha' ) If it came from Brussels's Bonsai then it is called a Brussel sprout. Different nurseries call it by a different name. An easy way to get around a plant patent ;o(
Doesn't matter what name it goes by it is all the same tree.
At one time it did have high hopes of becoming the next big thing in ficus bonsai. But then it was found that as the tree aged a bit it did exactly what you are experiencing.
Branches for some reason will stop producing. The foliage looses its compactness.
I am afraid that you are stuck with what you have. It certainty wont get any better but on the good side it probably wont get any worse.
Usually if you feed it with a high nitrogen fertilizer it will help. You will regain some foliage.
But , and I do hate to say it, you might just be a bit happier if you just relegated it to a house plant status.
Sorry to be so negative. I am not usually such a spoil sport. Just in this case I had no choice. Hope you understand my motives. They aren't mean spirited.
Sorry

Ron, what you've said is exactly what I figured....I cut this one back a few years ago and it reacted well. Now overwintering in my basement greenhouse and such have taken their toll. It was purchased from the monks at the monastary in Conyers Ga. so I don't REALLY consider it mallsai but.......I feel that there is no hope but to keep it growing as a Ficus. Just a Ficus and thats all.
Just for grins, would you recommend lopping of that right branch and if so, what method?...saw, knife, shears?.....Thanks. No offense taken. I treasure the wealth of ideas and knowledge I can gain from you guys.

If it were mine I would take a saw and cut that branch off. Then give it a diet of a high nitrogen fertilizer, something like a 30-15-15, and lots of sunshine. It might back bud. Never know.
Good luck
