Re: whaddya think?

If you would like to separate the trunks more, you can use sections of chopstick or cork and put them right between the trunks like splints

Regards,

Matt

Denny,

you are on the right track. This virtual shows how your tree could look like in one or two years.

best regards

Re: Ficus Benjamina for critique

I think its a good specimin, give it a while to re-foliate and it will be a good ficus/ Leave it ints planter for a while and I think I heard somewhere that banyan roots will start and make it look more natural.

I agree with these guys. Give the tree a chance to recooperate. I think you'll be very happy with it. I have the same feeling after working on my trees, but if I let them sit for a while without doing anything else to them, they seem to grow out of anything I do.

Re: Ficus Benjamina for critique

Denny,
Thanks for being courageous and putting up your benji. I have found that they tend to grow like mad on top (apical dominant)while shedding lower leaves and branches. The only way to keep a benjamina for any length of time is to ruthlessly cut the top to keep the lower branches healthy.
A few years back I got very cheaply some multi trunked bennys like you have here. I cut them back to 6 inches and bound their trunks together with raffia. Now the trunks have fused and small round canopies have formed. A much more pleasing bonsai. But you gotta be brave!!!

Re: Ficus Benjamina for critique

I myself have done like bonsainut. I had an older tree that was like 5 or 6 trunks put together with raffia and they fused, had a nice 3 inch trunk on it i think. Unfortunaly it died due to lack of water for a long month. I now have another growing, I htink it has about 12 trees in it, but each trunk is significatnly smaller of each indiviual (old ones were about half inch each, these are at most a 1/4 inch. now my trunk is about 2 inches, still letting it fues, and gregrow, but doing nicely, one day I will post it.
