of course you could go back to your uncle and ask... "where's the nebari?" You never know he may have forgotten to include it in the box.

No nebari, but at least a 6 inch base (not 8inch as I previousy stated, that would be insane) when I dug down a little. £1 for scale. It's sprouting new needles now, and some male flowers (those purple things).
I will continue removing the old, compacted soil bit by bit every couple of years, don't want to rush things. (I've already removed about 1/3 from the base and around the sides, and the rootball was surprisingly shallow.I'm feeding on a half dose of 12-12-14 inorganic fert pellets every fortnight. Cheers!
