Fall Show?

Would it be worth it to have a fall show or should we just stick to maybe a winter"bare bones" show. I would love to see some colorfull trees from around the world in fall. I have begun to leaf prune my trident's for fall color.

I am all for it, but we don't get any fall color here in this neck of the woods until mid December at the earliest. if it even happens (!)

Matt

You are right about that. That's why this year I'm going to put my trees in the freezer!

Al I think that you are a little early defoliating for fall color but that is just my opinion. As to freezer lets get a cold storage locker big enough for both of our trees. Tridents could produce two sets of leaves between now and November. When you get your tree defoliated post a photo so that we can see a winter silhouette.

You might want to check out this article, which suggests that fall color is perhaps more dependent on day length than temperature

It is a popular misconception that cold and frost cause the tree to change to its autumn color. A quick frost or freeze only serves to shorten the span of a tree's coloration

If so, a light-tight box might be a better choice than the freezer!

Why leaves change color

I think we should have a fall show. Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I also love they way a dedicous bonsai looks in its fall colors. I too have never heard of the freezer method, and also want it to be explained.

Again, I'd have to say it might be a good idea to read the above article explaining the color change mechanism before you freeze your treeze!

Matt
