Exposed root trident

Here is a good example of a tree that is chinese style. Lets here some suggestions on this tree. What you like, what you don't like.

Did this tree used to grow on a rock? I like the top of the tree, but the bottom looks like a bow legged girl I used to go swimming with. I think you could find a cool stone to bind it to, that would help close the hole.

No this girl was never on a rock, It is a clasic example of the problems with nursery stock. Right at the soil line is a donut of inarched root that will only be removed with airlayering. That is the one gallon donut. I may someday do the airlayering but for now it is going to be a chinese stile exposed root tree.

Very interesting exposed roots. I think I would like to see some more of the branch structure and trunk. As it is it looks a bit shrubby.

The roots suggest that the tree has had an interesting, if not difficult life, so the top should follow suit.

Don't the Chinese penjing tend to be a bit sparse anyway?
