What I suggested was a penjing....
A rock behind and a boulder in the front off to the side.

Advice?

Plant it in your yard. let it grow and be happy. You have an almost impossible piece to make a decent bonsai out of, thus it was in the give away pile.

I am not trying to be mean, but applying yourself to this kind of material will only lead to frustration and.......

(I originally offered to send him a tree worthy of working on, however, I now see from his Info this is impossible...).

To be sent such a tree would be wonderful but i wouldn't be able to accept such a kind offer. Thank you.

Im going to let it get healthy and sit down and study the tree. I know it will be frustrating to attempt to turn it into world class bonsai, but at this early stage of development in my skill as a bonsai artist, i think it important to try, fail and learn from it. Your advice however is still well taken.

This is probably a lilly pilly.
Uegenia or a Syzygium. There are a few differant varietys of each both are Australian.
Your bald cypress is one of the Taxodiums. There are only 3 varietys so it should not be hard to find which one.
Probably distichium as that is the most common in Australia.
Hope this helps Pup

After some long hard thinking about the tree in #53700 and #53701, would a raft style work better?
